Crossbar challenges set an unusually small target — the bar itself — so the margin for error is far tighter than a goal-scoring game. That makes elevation the critical variable: the ball has to arrive at exactly bar height at exactly the bar’s distance, and being slightly high or low misses entirely. Distance changes the required elevation rather than just the power, so a longer attempt is not simply a harder swing but a different trajectory. Where wind exists it adds a compensable lateral offset. Each miss is precise information — high, low, or wide by a knowable amount — so adjusting one variable at a time converges quickly.
